Gears of War Movie Updates

Quick update on the Gears of War movie, lots of people want to see happen. For the last couple of months, we haven’t heard anything new about it. It seems, they are pretty busy with the development of the franchise’s third entry due next April – I have no problem with this.

Legend of the Guardians Trailer

Warner Bros has debuted the full-length theatrical trailer for Zack Snyder's Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (the full title) on Yahoo and it's frickin' epic.  I just love how epic and beautiful this all looks, it seems like it'll be truly enjoyable and above all just plain fun to watch.  Enjoy!

First Look: The Smurfs

USA Today has published this first official image of The Smurfs, which is filming in New York City. What we see here, is our first look at Grouchy, Papa and Clumsy Smurf, voiced by George Lopez, Jonathan Winters and Anton Yelchin (respectively). The first official trailer for this will hit on Thursday, but in the meantime, this is all we've got. Oh and if you haven't seen the photos of Hank Azaria as Gargamel in New York City, check those out here, they're quite awesome as well. Interestingly, this isn't a exciting of an unveiling as I thought it would be. What do you guys think?

Inception Behind the Scenes

Featurette clip on Inception with some behind the scenes commentary from Christopher Nolan and Leonardo DiCaprio.

First Look: Hugh Jackman in Shawn Levy’s REAL STEEL

The first image from director Shawn Levy’s Real Steel has been released via USA Today.  While the movie only started principal photography earlier today, Touchstone Pictures decided to stay ahead of any leaks by releasing the first image of Hugh Jackman and a robot today.  And you know what…it’s a very smart move as this image looks great.  Disney has also released the official synopsis:

Pixar guys working on Toy Story 3 Video Game

"Movie-based games seem like they're destined to fail," says Jason Katz, story supervisor for Pixar's latest animated film, "Toy Story 3." "It's like putting a giraffe in human clothes."
But Pixar's collaboration with Avalanche Software on the "Toy Story 3" video game, released this week by Disney Interactive, demonstrates a fresh approach to the typically dreadful movie tie-in. Like most offerings in the genre, the game includes an interactive retelling of the film's plot. But Avalanche has also taken Buzz, Woody and the rest of the cast and put them in an open-world playground, called the Toy Box, that feels even truer to the spirit of the franchise.

'Unthinkable', the hottest new movie that you have never heard of

How's this for a true Hollywood mystery? Last Friday, when I visited the Internet Movie Data Base's Movie Meter, which ranks the hottest films and TV shows of the moment in terms of searches by IMDB users, I found a movie ranked at No. 4 -- higher than "Get Him to the Greek," "Shrek Forever After," "Robin Hood" or "Glee" -- that isn't even playing in theaters and hasn't been released on home video.

Called "Unthinkable," the film stars Sam Jackson as an enigmatic former Army interrogator brought in to question a U.S.-born Muslim terrorist, played by Michael Sheen, who has planted nuclear devices in three American cities. With the clock ticking and FBI, military and CIA operatives on hand angrily debating the wisdom of his actions, the film focuses on just how far Jackson's character should go in terms of brutal interrogation tactics to force the terrorist to reveal where he has placed the bombs.

Gemma Ward Boards PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES

It’s a good time to be a supermodel with thespian aspirations in Hollywood.  (Although, was it ever really a bad time?)  Transformers 3 found its female lead in the pages of Victoria’s Secret, while Australian bombshell Gemma Ward has just landed a role in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  The Daily Telegraph reports that Ward has landed a small speaking part as a mermaid in the fourth film of the swashbuckling franchise. The Men in Black are Back

For those of you who’ve been MIA, MIB 3 is happening - now. As reported by MTV’s Splash Page, Sony already filmed a teaser which features Will Smith in his super sleek Agent J suit attempting to reassure the public that making a third Men in Black is a good idea. Unfortunately, the teaser is no longer viewable via YouTube, so you’ll have to settle for Smith’s message in text.

The Concert Poster

Here's a treat for all the Inglourious Basterds out there: a look at the UK quad for Melanie Laurent's new film, The Concert, where she plays a young violin player who is key to the sneaky plans of a conductor-turned-janitor who's out for payback. So pretty much business as usual for her, then.

The Karate Kid beats The A-Team

1 The Karate Kid (2010) $56M
2 The A-Team (2010) $26M
3 Shrek Forever After (2010) $15.8M
4 Get Him to the Greek (2010) $10.1M

Rebooting franchises isn't always a popular idea, but in many cases, it's a profitable one. Such was the case this weekend as two updates on classic properties entered the box office arena in the form of "The Karate Kid" and "The A-Team," with the kung fu-centric reboot coming out in first place.

New Poster for Tekken Movie

Wait, when did this get a release date? ComicBookMovie.com (via SlashFilm) has uncovered a new official poster for the Dwight Little directed Tekken movie, starring Jon Foo as Jin Kazama, based on the popular video game. Actually the featured the trailer was released back in January, so we knew this was going to arrive sometime this year, but the poster clearly states: "The Battle Begins Aug 5". So I am assuming this is going to hit theaters? Hopefully not straight-to-DVD, right? I actually think this is just an international poster, which means we still don't know when it's coming out in the US. But check out the poster anyway, it's pretty cool.

Complete Character Poster Series for Shane Acker's 9

These posters count up from 1 all the way to 9 featuring a new character from the movie on each one. If you've seen the trailer than you know that it's about this group of ragdoll heroes and 9, voiced by Elijah Wood, is the final key to saving the world. This is a cool little poster campaign, a lot like Coraline's A to Z posters, and I wanted to make sure we featured all of them! Thanks to everyone who helped find everyone last one.

4 New Character Banners and 18 Photos from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
With yesterday’s release of the final trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Warner Bros has a set of four new character banners and eighteen new production photos (which are essentially screenshots from the new trailer). Check out the new images after the jump.

Behind-the-Scenes Photo from Tintin

Just like James Cameron's Avatar, the powers that be have tricked us yet again with the very first photo from The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn. Revealed on Empire yesterday, the photo is another simple behind-the-scenes shot of Jamie Bell and Andy Serkis in their motion capture outfits with Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson standing by. As a reminder (and if you couldn't tell by reading the names on their outfits), Bell plays Tintin, Serkis plays Captain Haddock, and they're joined by Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Tony Curran, and a few others.

Awesome Poster for Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell!

A loan officer (Alison Lohman) ordered to evict an old woman (Lorna Raver) from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse, who turns her life into a living hell. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.

Star Trek Sequel Already In the works

In advance of its May 8th release, Paramount has already preemptively greenlit a sequel to J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, and has confirmed that screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will be back. Joining those two, however, will be Damon Lindelof, a Paramount producer and writer for "Lost" who helped get this Star Trek reboot off the ground with J.J. Abrams to begin with. No decision has been made on whether Abrams will return to direct the sequel. Although we can expect to hear a lot more about this in May, soon after it hits theaters. It looks like Abrams has indeed already successfully rebooted this franchise!

Orci and Kurtzman Talk Transformers 2

SCI FI Wire talked to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman about coming up with the new story, about what robots you might see and about possibly getting Leonard Nimoy to voice a character.

What If...

wall-e recast

What would Pixar’s WALL-E look like if it was an anime series starring human characters instead of robots? Or what about Finding Nemo set on land instead of the ocean? These two Pixar/Andrew Stanton reimaginings were found on 4chan. The Finding Nemo art (available after the jump) is credited to Andrew Kalko, but I’m not sure who created the Wall-E piece.
