Is Rupert Wyatt Exiting ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes?’

Despite its awful title, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was actually one of the biggest surprises of 2011. Anchored by a brilliant motion capture performance by Andy Serkis, a well-developed script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and solid direction by Rupert Wyatt, the movie was given rave reviews and was a box office smash, pulling in $481 million globally on a modest $93 million budget. The success led 20th Century Fox to almost immediately green light a sequel that would follow the continuing development of Caesar and his ape army, but now it's looking like the project may lose its director.

Liam Neeson Ponders Snapping Necks in the French 'Taken 2' Poster

The teaser trailer for the action thriller sequel Taken 2 certainly got some people excited. Now a poster from France has Neeson standing, gun in hand, and likely pondering about the best way to kill his enemies in pursuit of him and his family. It's always best to ponder these things in low light and in front of large numbers as well. It's nothing spectacular, but fans already know what they want and expect from a sequel like this, so there's not much selling to do. Look!

International 'Taken 2' trailer Hits... Hard

The time has come to see retired CIA operative Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) in action as an international trailer for the flick has just surfaced. While there's a half-ass attempt to replicate the thrill of the cell phone scene from the first film between Neeson and his daughter (Maggie Grace), the trailer still packs a lot of punch, and should be a great treat for fans this fall with plenty of gunfire and snapped necks.

New Ice Age 4 Teaser Short 'Scrat's Continental Crack-Up'

Damn, can you believe it, we're already to the fourth Ice Age? I haven't been keeping up with the series even though I love the first one, but yes indeed, hitting theaters in summer 2012 is Ice Age: Continental Drift, with those same pack of prehistoric creatures back again. As always, Fox loves to tease each one with one of their animated shorts starring the squirrel Scrat. Fox just released a brand new one on Apple titled Scrat's Continental Crack-Up that you gotta see. I know Peter from /Film calls these the Looney Tunes of today and they're very fun, even on the fourth go around... or is it the sixth? How many times have we seen Scrat?

Watchmen smiles again :)

As predicted, a caravan of brinks trucks showed up on Fox’s doorstep and magically they canceled their playdate with Judge Gary Feess. The release date will not be changed. Everything is going as planned.

ComingSoon offers us the good news:

Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox have resolved their dispute regarding the rights to the upcoming motion picture Watchmen in a confidential settlement. Warner Bros acknowledges that Fox acted in good faith in bringing its claims, which were asserted prior to the start of principal photography. Fox acknowledges that Warner Bros. acted in good faith in defending against those claims Warner Bros. and Fox, like all Watchmen fans, look forward with great anticipation to this film’s March 6 release in theatres.

It appears that this Larry Gordon fella turned out to be the sore spot over all of this confusion and many lawyers are now turning their hurtful gaze in his direction. Right from the very begining this has had Gordon written all over it. WB was certain that they recovered the rights to their property, Fox was not so convinced.

Now the movie will be released on schedule, Fox and the Brothers Warner are playing nice and they will deal with Gordon on their own time.

Fox Still Fighting to Delay Watchmen Release!

Twentieth Century Fox are set to block the release of Warner's "Watchmen".

But they can't do that!? I hear you comic-book buffs scream.

Well, yeah, they can. And they will.

Though Warner's is adamant it'll still release "Watchmen" on March 6th, Fox, who contends it retains distribution rights under a 1994 turnaround agreement with producer Larry Gordon, who took "Watchmen" to Warner Bros. after attempts to make it with Fox, Universal and Paramount, is determined to see that doesn't happen.

Gordon, who's not a defendant in the case, had never exercised his option to acquire Fox's remaining interest in "Watchmen" nor had he honored his agreement since 2005 to offer the project to Fox under the "changed elements" part of the pact. For its part, Warner contended that Fox did not own any rights to "Watchmen."

Its a case of He Says, She Says that won't be solved overnight. And until this whole matter is resolved - it's likely Warner's won't be putting their flick into theaters this March.

Judge Says Fox Owns Rights to Watchmen!

Yikes -- Warner Bros. obviously landed on Santa's naughty list this year. The New York Times reports that the judge has ruled in favor of Fox Studios. Sayeth the Honorable Judge Feess "Fox owns a copyright interest consisting of, at the very least, the right to distribute the Watchmen motion picture."

Watchmen

This comes as quite a surprise since last we heard, the judge didn't have enough information to make a ruling, and was moving the trial to January 20th. Judge Feess indicated he would make a more detailed ruling soon.

Warner Bros. has declined to comment, and as of now, has not backed off the film's planned release date of March 6. I can hear you all crying (and I hope it's in your very best Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer voice) "There goes Watchmen, and there goes Christmas!" But it's highly doubtful Watchmen will lose its release date. There's no need to panic. Feess advised Fox and Warner Bros to look towards a settlement or appeal. "The parties may wish to turn their efforts from preparing for trial to negotiating a resolution of this dispute or positioning the case for review." So, expect a major payoff from Warner Bros. (and maybe those rumored Batman television show rights) to Fox in order that we'll still be at that March 6th show. And you thought a lump of coal was bad.

More 'Wolverine' Photos With Sabretooth!

There's new pictures! And the photos are always so cool -- and yes, I am easily pleased when it comes to the admantium one ... and yes, at this point the movie could be Wolverine reading a phone book for 2 hours and I would probably count my money well spent.

Anyway, 20th Century Fox has released five new images from Wolverine. I like that Wolverine and Sabretooth appear to be bickering moments before being "executed." Hate runs deep. My favorite of the bunch, though, is the Weapon X photo ... not because it shows off a lot of Hugh Jackman, but because I'm hoping its an indication we see the whole nasty bonding procedure. If it's another blink-and-you-miss it sequence, well, they just missed the point of doing a Wolverine origin story!

Check out all the photos below:

Babylon A.D. Rumors Debunked

A rumor has surfaced on many sites this past week saying that director Mathieu Kassovitz's Babylon A.D., starring Vin Diesel, would get a shorter cut here in North American and be shown as a 2 hour and 40 minute movie overseas. Production company MNP Entreprise has addressed the rumor:

The last days have been busy with news about the length and the rating of Babylon AD. I always find it amazing to see rumors grow from other rumors or misunderstanding. Therefore I think the time is good to give you some updates.

Babylon AD has never had a 2h40min cut. This rumor came from a joke Mathieu did in front of some journalists last september. Apparently some of them didn't understand it... The approximate length of the film is 1h40min and this is what has been delivered to our partner, FOX. So I can reassure you, FOX is not chopping up the film and cutting 70min like I read on Rotten Tomatoes ! :-)

Oh and about the PG13, that was a contractual agreement between Fox and us, so there is no surprise on that end.
The truth is Fox - like any other studio - will have their final cut on their territories and Mathieu Kassovitz has his on the European ones. So there will naturally be a few differences between the two versions.

Now about the film, StudioCanal is working on teasers and the poster for the European territories as I speak. A French teaser should be released on the web quite soon!

In the sci-fi action-thriller, opening Stateside on August 29, a veteran-turned-mercenary (Diesel) agrees to escort a woman from Russia to Germany, not realizing that she's the host for an organism that a cult wants to harvest into a genetically-modified Messiah.
