Gore Verbinski to Direct Walter Mitty Remake

Just one day after the world got their first look at director Gore Verbinski's animated Rango, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" helmer is already set for what may be his next movie, a remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye vehicle The Secret Life of Walter Mitty for 20th Century Fox.

No word on who will play the lead role although the long in development hell project has had numerous names attached to it, including comic Mike Myers at one point and most recently, Borat himself, Sacha Baron Cohen. If negotiations go through and Verbinski makes this his next project, there's no word yet whether he'll stick with the idea of Cohen or go in a different direction.

With a script by Steve Conrad, who wrote Verbinski's The Weather Man and the recent Sony hit The Karate Kid, the story will follow Walter Mitty, a wimpy comic book writer who dreams of being a hero and who suddenly finds himself caught up in an adventure trying to find the Dutch crown jewels that had been missing since World War II.
