Djimon Hounsou to star in is his dream projec

At today's Never Back Down junket, star Djimon Hounsou revealed to IESB that he'll be starring in his dream project soon -- a comic book trilogy.

He'd say no more than that so let the speculation begin... starting with me.

I think there are two distinct possibilities here but before I get accused of running rumor and here-say, let me make clear that the rest of this article is absolute presumption on my part.

The obvious answer is that Hounsou is talking about staring as The Black Panther in the inevitable Fantastic Four 3. Tim Story mentioned in an IGN article nearly a year ago that Hounsou was his ideal choice for the Wakandan King. If this is the case, it's actually perfect casting (outside of it being another Story-directed Fantastic Four film).

The other possibility, though, that I'm not entirely willing to shake is that Hounsou might be talking about Tintin.

But ther is another fact attached to Hounsou. It has been well known that the PlayStation 2 hit “God of War” was being made into a movie. Now designer David Jaffe has stated that the movie script is done. He also said that he would prefer Djimon Hounsou, who was worked in Amistad and Blood Diamonds, to play Kratos.

David Jaffe said in an interview to Entertainment Weekly, “I keep expecting them to call me and say it’s dead, but my fingers are crossed. We’ll be sending the script out to a huge-name director… Djimon Hounsou as Kratos. Absolutely. You have to get past the fact that Kratos is Greek, but in terms of the way he looks and his acting ability and his physique, I can’t think of a better choice.”

The script of the God of War movie has been written by David Self who has worked on Thirteen Days and Road to Perdition. The sequel to the game, God of War 2 for the PS2 is expected to release this month while a PSP version of the game is also in the works. The movie has a good script writer; lets hope the director would be a good one too and the movie doesn’t end up like the Lara Croft movies.

Hounsou mentions that this is a dream project for him. While Tintin may not be the biggest bit of pop-culture this side of the Atlantic, it's still extremely popular in Europe -- especially in France where Hounsou moved when he was 13. Add in the Spielberg connection and the fact that Tintin's being done as a trilogy and I think its speculation with some potential.

But whether it's Fantastic Four, Tintin or something completely different, the solid fact is that Hounsou will be starring in a comic book trilogy. Whatever it may be, we'll try to have confirmation for you soon as well as the full video interview.
