First Full Trailer for Michael Mann's Public Enemies

Universal has just debuted the trailer for the highly anticipated Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. Depp stars as the infamous 1930's bank robber John Dillinger and Bale as his FBI pursuer, Melvin Purvis. Those of you who have been anxiously awaiting your first glimpse better check this out right away, because it looks like we might have another crime movie as exceptional as The Untouchables on our hands. It's got that distinct Michael Mann style (think Collateral), but combined with old school tommy gun action. This definitely looks like it'll be a summer hit, that goes without saying!

Public Enemies is directed by Michael Mann, of Heat, Ali, Collateral, and Miami Vice previously. The screenplay is based on Bryan Burrough's book of the same name and was adapted by Ronan Bennett (A Further Gesture). Later, Michael Mann and Ann Biderman (Copycat, Primal Fear) wrote a revised screenplay before shooting. Universal is bringing Public Enemies to theaters everywhere on July 1st this summer.

What do you get if you cross the poster for Road To Perdition and Johnny Depp? Why, the new poster for Michael Mann's Public Enemies, in which Depp plays legendary outlaw John Dillinger opposite Christian Bale's lawman.

The film's been shooting in Wisconsin and Illinois, and tells the story of FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Bale) and his attempts to capture Dillinger and his notorious gang. His contemporaries included Pretty Boy Floyd (Channing Tatum), Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi), Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Homer Van Meter (Stephen Dorff). Billy Crudup plays legendary FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover.

The previous paragraph, incidentally, proves two things. First of all, that people had much more interesting names in the 1930s. Secondly, Michael Mann's assembled a very interesting cast. The film's out here on July 3.

New Terminator Salvation Posters and Photos

The end of the world is nearly here and this is what the future looks like. These are the indivdual character one sheets a full Terminator Salvation quad and a whole bunch of stills, just in time to remind us of their faces before the new trailer hits later today.

Featuring shots of a serious Christian Bale armed to the teeth, Worthington showing off a rather fetching trench coat and Terminator with glowing eyes, gritted gnashers and a massive gun, there are also stills of Bale and Bryce Dallas Howard examining some Terminator specimens as well as Worthington held at gunpoint by Anton Yelchin, and facing off with Bale.

In case you have been hiding in a bunker waiting for the fallout, the McG take on James Cameron's Terminator franchise is set to reach US cinemas May 21 and the good people of Blighty on June 5.

Will McG Actually Get Terminator Salvation an R Rating?

When production first began on Terminator Salvation, rumors began to circulate that Warner Bros wanted the film to be PG-13. At Comic-Con last year, McG assured fans in attendance that he is under no pressure to deliver a PG-13 rating. Referring to the studio executives for this film, McG explained “I’ve been given their blessing to make the picture…and if it’s a rated R picture, then that’s that.” He elaborated that he’s not against the idea of a PG-13 rating, but that the ultimate rating will depend completely upon what the final vision for the film is.

Today McG mentioned having a topless scene of the film's lovely heroine Moon Bloodgood, who is being seen as a homage to Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor, and in his usual flair of showmanship, he put it to the audience whether or not they want to see that scene in the movie. Needless to say, the mostly male audience enthusiastically chose the former.

It seems to me that the only reason that Warner Bros would want the scene cut from the film is if they want a PG-13 cut of the film. There is no other possible reason. McG publicly called out the name of the Warner Bros executive that is pushing for the removal of the shot in question, and made it clear that he would like to keep the shot in. And while McG didn’t flat out say that he wants to fight for a R-Rating, that’s how it came across to me and most everyone in the convention hall. And making a public statement is a strong message to the movie studio producing the film. McG’s vision is evidently R-Rated after all, but will the film be edited down for a more marketable (potentially more profitable) PG-13 rating?

Leaked Audio - Christian Bale vs. Shane Hurlbut UPDATED

I normally try to stay away from the more gossipy stories, but this thing is already everywhere. TMZ got their hands on audio of Christian Bale going ballistic on the set of Terminator Salvation when Shane Hurlbut, the director of photography, walked onto a set while a scene was being filmed. Bale threatens to kick Hurlbut’s ass and trash his lights, before saying he won’t return to set until he is fired. You can listen to the audio on TMZ.com.

The Dark Knight to be Re-Released in Jan. 23

Warner Bros. Pictures is bringing The Dark Knight back for a return engagement in theaters and IMAX on January 23, 2009, giving audiences one more chance to see the film on the big screen. The film will re-open nationwide, it was announced today by Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution.

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, "'The Dark Knight' is a crowning achievement in every sense of the word. We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen."

One of the most celebrated and successful films of this or any year, The Dark Knight has been hailed by both critics and audiences since its original release last July. The film garnered widespread acclaim for its artistic and technical achievements, including the work of its outstanding cast and its director, Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Christopher Nolan (Memento).

Led by Christian Bale, reprising his role from Batman Begins, and Academy Award® nominee Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain), the ensemble cast also includes Academy Award® winner Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules), Gary Oldman (the "Harry Potter" films), Aaron Eckhart (Thank You for Smoking), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Stranger Than Fiction), and Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby).

First Look at Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in 'Public Enemies'

We've seen a few photos from the set, but Empire has snagged the first official images from Michael Mann's Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in what has to be one of the most anticipated on-screen match-ups of 2009. In the flick, which is based on the book by Bryan Burrough, Bale will portray FBI agent Melvin Purvis, who, under the guidance of J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup), waged a full-on war against the country's most notorious (and successful) criminals -- namely John Dillinger (Depp), Pretty Boy Floyd (Channing Tatum) and Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham). Terminator Salvation gets a Motion Poster

Sony pictures have released an unusual Flash-animated poster for the film.

Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, the film stars Christian Bale as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators.

But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

Terminator Salvation is directed by McG of Charlie's Angels and We Are Marshall with a script written by writing duo John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris (Into the Sun, The Net, The Game, Terminator 3). This film marks the return of the Terminator series after Terminator 3 last hit theaters in 2003. The Dark Knight defeats The Dragon Emperor

It was touch and go for a day or so, but according to estimates, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (Warner Bros.) has won the weekend, narrowly defeating the third installment of the "Mummy" franchise, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (Universal) starring Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello.

Racking up its third weekend at #1, The Dark Knight added an estimated $43.8 million to its staggering $395 million take after just seventeen days, putting it in line to cross the $400 million mark tomorrow, the first movie to ever make that amount in just 18 days. (Shrek 2 was previously the fastest movie to hit $400 million, which it grossed in 43 days, so "Dark Knight" did the same two and a half times faster.) Currently, The Dark Knight is the eighth-highest grossing movie of all-time and Warner Bros.' top grossing movie, but by this time next weekend, it's likely to be the fifth or sixth highest grossing movie domestically as it starts targeting Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. From there, it's only $70 million away from becoming only the second movie in over 80 years of filmmaking to gross $500 million domestically, not accounting for inflation.

Internationally, The Dark Knight added $37 million for a total of $202.5 million overseas and a worldwide total of $597.5 million.

Directed by new helmer Rob Cohen, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor brought in an estimated $42.5 million in its opening weekend in 3,759 theaters, an average of $11,300 per site. To put those numbers in perspective, the third "Mummy" movie grossed less its opening weekend than the original movie in 1999, while The Dark Knight made more in its THIRD weekend than Tim Burton's Batman made its opening weekend 19 years ago.

"Dragon Emperor" opened in first place internationally with $59.5 million at 3,559 theaters.

The Dark Knight > $314.2M in 10 Days!

Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight earned an estimated $75.6 million from 4,366 theaters in its second weekend, surpassing Shrek 2's $72.2 million for biggest second weekend ever. Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins follow-up has reached $314.2 million in just 10 days, another record. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest held the previous record in the amount of days it took to cross the $300 million mark - it needed 16 days to do so. On Monday, The Dark Knight will surpass Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to become the biggest movie of 2008 domestically. It is already up to #23 on the all-time domestic blockbuster list and has a good shot at surpassing Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope's $460.998 million (not counting inflation) to become the second-biggest domestic earner of all-time, trailing only Titanic's $600.788 million. The Dark Knight, budgeted at $185 million, stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.

The first TV spot for Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight aired during the season finale of "Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites" Sunday night and you can watch a low-quality version below. Terminator Salvation Targeting PG-13 Rating

Variety reports that with production starting today on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, producers at the Halcyon Co. say they aim to deliver a PG-13 movie to Warner Bros. for release on May 22, 2009.The "Terminator" series is one of the highest-grossing R-rated franchises of all time, with the first three films having grossed more than $1.03 billion worldwide. "The ratings have changed," said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Victor Kubicek, a broker-turned-writer-producer. "The PG-13 has increased in intensity."

A family-friendly rating opens many doors, including a "Terminator Salvation" licensing deal for action figures with Playmates Toys.

"Our merchandising program will be the largest to date for 'The Terminator,' " said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Derek Anderson, ex-owner of ad agency In the Mix, who adds that he had not discussed the possibility of an R-rating with Warners. "We won't force it. We are carrying on in the tradition of the mythology, with an exciting approach to the action. If we can make a compelling film to reach the widest audience, why wouldn't we do it?"

Halcyon has already launched Halcyon Games to create a "Terminator" game for release at the same time as the movie. "The first three games were all bad," Anderson said. "The core fans are screaming for something fresh; they won't be just playing the movie."

Set in post-apocalyptic 2029, an adult John Connor, played by Christian Bale, leads the war to save humanity from the killing machines. Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin and Moon Bloodgood co-star.
