First Official Teaser Poster for Battle: Los Angeles

Isn't it a little late for something like a teaser poster? ComingSoon has revealed the first official poster for Jonathan Liebesman's exciting new alien invasion movie Battle: Los Angeles starring Aaron Eckhart and a young platoon of Marines. We've seen the badass trailers for this and know what to expect (Black Hawk Down with aliens) but this poster seems like something we should've seen six months ago before any trailers or anything. Now it just seems kind of boring when we already know the action this has in it. Cool imagery, but come on, this is it? I hope we see more cool posters for Battle: Los Angeles soon. Check it out!

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Script Due Today

 

Christopher Nolan’s script for The Dark Knight Rises is reportedly due today.  Although, as David S. Cohen jokes in his tweet, what can Warner Bros. do if he doesn’t turn it in?  Fire him?  Of course, Nolan seems like a fairly self-disciplined chap and so when he told Cohen that the script was “due”, that was probably a self-imposed deadline.  It would, however, be a bit early as Michael Caine says he didn’t expect to get the script until January (and that may still be true).  Shooting on the highly-anticipated sequel is set to begin in May with the movie set for release on July 20, 2012.

Extremely impressive teaser trailer for Battle: Los Angeles

This is a frickin' fantastic teaser trailer. Sony has unveiled the first trailer via Apple for Jonathan Liebesman's Battle: Los Angeles, an epic, energetic action movie about an alien invasion in Los Angeles. That may sound a bit familiar, but give it a chance, this trailer seriously kicks ass. Aaron Eckhart leads an ensemble cast of young Marines who are brought in to fight of the enemy aliens. It has a very Black Hawk Down-plus-aliens feel to, but this trailer is beautiful, such a perfect teaser for this. I seriously can't frickin' wait to see it! I definitely know what I'll be doing on March 11th - watching Battle: Los Angeles!

First Look: Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary

Well, these may not be official official photos, but these are actual stills from the movie, not just some shots of Depp taken by paparazzi while on set down in Puerto Rico. These two photos from Bruce Robinson's The Rum Diary were found on FilmTotaal.nl and are pretty cool to see.  So although it's great to see Depp in a role that doesn't involve heavy make-up, I have no clue when this is coming to theaters. Could Aaron Eckhart's Two-Face Still Be Alive?!

What happens when you get a few of the stars from The Dark Knight on the red carpet at the Golden Globes? Well, you bombard them with sequel questions, of course. And even though Aaron Eckhart has previously said that the character of Harvey Dent/Two Face was "Dead as a door nail," the man has apparently had a change of heart (or should we say he's become a bit two-faced?). While speaking to MTV at the Globes last night, Eckhart had this to say about his character: "I think Harvey - if he's not dead - is in a serious coma ... and I'm not sure he's coming out. They might pull the plug on him."

And while it's quite obvious no one knows anything yet (there's not even a script!), remember that Nolan brought back Scarecrow for a brief scene in Dark Knight, and so Two Face may show up in the next sequel if it makes enough sense. Personally, I'd rather see different villains -- but that's me. What do you make of all this?

The Dark Knight to be Re-Released in Jan. 23

Warner Bros. Pictures is bringing The Dark Knight back for a return engagement in theaters and IMAX on January 23, 2009, giving audiences one more chance to see the film on the big screen. The film will re-open nationwide, it was announced today by Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution.

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, "'The Dark Knight' is a crowning achievement in every sense of the word. We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen."

One of the most celebrated and successful films of this or any year, The Dark Knight has been hailed by both critics and audiences since its original release last July. The film garnered widespread acclaim for its artistic and technical achievements, including the work of its outstanding cast and its director, Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Christopher Nolan (Memento).

Led by Christian Bale, reprising his role from Batman Begins, and Academy Award® nominee Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain), the ensemble cast also includes Academy Award® winner Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules), Gary Oldman (the "Harry Potter" films), Aaron Eckhart (Thank You for Smoking), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Stranger Than Fiction), and Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby).

In addition, critics and moviegoers alike applauded Nolan's revolutionary use of IMAX cameras to film some of the most challenging action sequences ever created—a first for a major feature film.

Nolan directed The Dark Knight from a screenplay written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. Originally released on July 18, 2008, The Dark Knight broke virtually every possible box office record to become the top-grossing film of 2008 and the second-highest grossing movie (domestically) of all time.

The Dark Knight defeats The Dragon Emperor

It was touch and go for a day or so, but according to estimates, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (Warner Bros.) has won the weekend, narrowly defeating the third installment of the "Mummy" franchise, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (Universal) starring Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello.

Racking up its third weekend at #1, The Dark Knight added an estimated $43.8 million to its staggering $395 million take after just seventeen days, putting it in line to cross the $400 million mark tomorrow, the first movie to ever make that amount in just 18 days. (Shrek 2 was previously the fastest movie to hit $400 million, which it grossed in 43 days, so "Dark Knight" did the same two and a half times faster.) Currently, The Dark Knight is the eighth-highest grossing movie of all-time and Warner Bros.' top grossing movie, but by this time next weekend, it's likely to be the fifth or sixth highest grossing movie domestically as it starts targeting Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. From there, it's only $70 million away from becoming only the second movie in over 80 years of filmmaking to gross $500 million domestically, not accounting for inflation.

Internationally, The Dark Knight added $37 million for a total of $202.5 million overseas and a worldwide total of $597.5 million.

Directed by new helmer Rob Cohen, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor brought in an estimated $42.5 million in its opening weekend in 3,759 theaters, an average of $11,300 per site. To put those numbers in perspective, the third "Mummy" movie grossed less its opening weekend than the original movie in 1999, while The Dark Knight made more in its THIRD weekend than Tim Burton's Batman made its opening weekend 19 years ago.

"Dragon Emperor" opened in first place internationally with $59.5 million at 3,559 theaters.

The Dark Knight > $314.2M in 10 Days!

Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight earned an estimated $75.6 million from 4,366 theaters in its second weekend, surpassing Shrek 2's $72.2 million for biggest second weekend ever. Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins follow-up has reached $314.2 million in just 10 days, another record. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest held the previous record in the amount of days it took to cross the $300 million mark - it needed 16 days to do so. On Monday, The Dark Knight will surpass Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to become the biggest movie of 2008 domestically. It is already up to #23 on the all-time domestic blockbuster list and has a good shot at surpassing Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope's $460.998 million (not counting inflation) to become the second-biggest domestic earner of all-time, trailing only Titanic's $600.788 million. The Dark Knight, budgeted at $185 million, stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.

The First Dark Knight TV Spot!

The first TV spot for Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight aired during the season finale of "Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites" Sunday night and you can watch a low-quality version below. Opening in conventional theaters and IMAX on July 18, the Christopher Nolan-directed film stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.
