Newell to Film Prince of Persia in Morocco

British helmer Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) will direct action-adventure pic Prince of Persia: Sands of Time in Morocco for producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney.

The epic project is a live-action feature based on the videogame. "Prince of Persia" has a script by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (The Day After Tomorrow) and game creator Jordan Mechner. The videogame spawned six installments and numerous spin-offs, boosting Disney executives' hopes for a lucrative new tentpole.

The choice of Morocco as a shooting location will be a boost for the North African country's film biz.

"Prince of Persia" will also film in UK's Pinewood Shepperton studios. The Moroccan section of the shoot is expected to start in mid-June.

James Cameron Gives Avatar Update

James Cameron gave Ain't It Cool News an update about his December 2009 3D sci-fi action-adventure Avatar, starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang and Matt Gerald. I'm in New Zealand right now, working on effects, while Steve Quale shoots some second unit. We've worked together a lot (he did the engine room scenes on "Titanic", plus co-directed "Aliens of the Deep" with me) and he's the only guy I trust to shoot stuff for me, especially in 3D. We still have a little performance capture work to do with Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana in March, when we get her back from Star Trek (she's Uhura -- but of course you already knew that.) And we have a couple of days with Stephen Lang in April or May, to shoot his character's last scene, which is so technically difficult it will take us until then to figure out how to do it.

New Street Fight Movie

According to Variety, Kreuk, who plays Lana Lang on the Superboy series, will star as martial artist Chun-Li. Duncan will play Balrog, while Klein is stepping into the role of Nash. Yune is taking on the mystical Gen. Rounding out the cast are Moon Bloodgood (of the now-defunct TV series “Journeyman”), Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, Singapore’s Edmund Chen and Hong Kong film star Cheng Pei Pei. Apparently the producers are still looking for an actor to fill the villain Bison’s shoes. That role, you’ll recall, was played by the late Raul Julia in the previous “Street Fighter” movie.

Andrzej Bartkowiak (”Romeo Must Die,” “Exit Wounds”) is directing from a script penned by “Voltron” scribe Justin Marks. Hong Kong fight choreographer Dion Lam (”The Matrix”) is handling the extreme fight sequences. It all kicks off in March.

Fast And The Furious 4 Cars

Under the file of “My dear sweet lord WHY!?!?” comes news of the upcoming Fast and the Furious 4. Why anyone continues to watch this nonsense is beyond me, but film is subjective, so there you go.

Anyway, the site “vindieselgallery” got their hand on a whole ton of pictures of the cars that will be used in the up coming movie, including the ones that will be used by Vin Diesel himself and also the one to be used by Paul Walker.

The folks over at Ropeofsilicon have this quick synopsis:

Brian (Paul Walker) is freed from prison (the authorities found out that he let Dominic played by Vin Diesel go at the end of the first film) to help the feds stop a heroin importer known as Braga. With the help of an informant named James Park, Brian – and ultimately Dominic Toretto – wins a place on the criminal’s team, where he – and his flashy Nissan plan to catch the man red-handed.
