Serkis to Star as Caesar in Planet of the Apes!

Great news for anyone who love British actor Andy Serkis. Or for anyone looking forward to Fox's Planet of the Apes prequel Rise of the Apes. Fox just launched an official Twitter feed today with a bit of news: "Gollum reteams with Weta. Andy Serkis to star as Caesar in Rise of the Apes, portraying chimp who leads the simian revolt." Serkis has already "played" another ape before - King Kong in Peter Jackson's remake from 2005. As we know, Weta is creating all of the apes digitally, but it's great to hear they've got someone talented behind the very vital role of Caesar. James Franco stars in the movie and Rupert Wyatt is directing.

Planet of the Apes Reboot UPDATED

Those damn dirty apes are set to invade cinema screens again!

You’ll call to mind a few weeks back Devin from CHUD reporting on a new “Planet of the Apes” movie that Fox were being embryonic with. Tilted “Genesis: Apes”, it would fundamentally be a restructure of “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes”, centering on the first chatting primate, Caesar.

Tom Rothman, he of ‘I sit in the big chair’ at Fox fame, was on the Fox Movie Channel over the weekend, speaking between the “Apes” movies that were being broadcast, and ingrained the news.

According to CHUD, Rothman said "We are very close at Fox on a new Apes script- this one a kind of prequel story before the first story, with a return to the social thematics that mark the first one, but with an entirely contemporary setting - Earth 2009”.

Update! : Cinema Blend are reporting that Scott Frank(The Lookout), is set to direct the movie.
